SPARK Taiwan highlights 10 years of translational successes
Posted on April 25th, 2025
SPARK Taiwan has overcome hurdles in the country to advance biomedical discovery and development, and over the last 10 years has provided education and tools to academics and researchers to help advance new drugs, devices and technologies. This successful program was recently highlighted in an article in Nature Biotechnology, demonstrating how SPARK Taiwan has contributed to the country’s biotech industry by encouraging scientists to start businesses and fostering collaborations.
SPARK Taiwan was established in 2013 by the government initiative Taiwan Supra Integration and Incubation Center (Si2C) to adapt the successful SPARK model of advancing translational research to Taiwan’s growing biomedical industry. Since then, as the Nature Biotechnology article outlines, the program has demonstrated major achievements and impact in Taiwan’s biotech sector, including new startups and technology and substantial return on investment. In particular, SPARK Taiwan has implemented an effective program management strategy including metrics and tracking to ensure impactful results.
The article highlights the importance of evaluating a program’s impacts and results, and shows how SPARK Taiwan has contributed to Taiwan’s biomedical industry by providing “an effective ecosystem for nurturing biomedical innovation.”
