SPARK Africa leaders recognized by Global Health EDCTP

SPARK Africa Director Collen Masimirembwa is profiled in a feature series of influential figures “driving progress in global health research and innovation.” The series showcases influential figures whose work has been enabled through fellowships from the European & Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP), a major research partnership between the European Union and multiple African and European countries.
Professor Masimirembwa is “one of Africa’s leading experts in pharmacogenomics and precision medicine,” the feature notes. He is “dedicated to advancing the application of genomics in healthcare and strengthening biomedical research capacity across the continent.” This recognition reflects his outstanding leadership and lifelong commitment to advancing biomedical science, research excellence, and innovation in Africa.
Prof. Masimirembwa was an EDCTP Senior Fellow in 2017, a former member of the EDCTP Association Scientific Advisory Committee, and currently represents Zimbabwe in the EDCTP Association General Assembly.
Additionally, former SPARK Africa Co-Director Tulio de Oliveira is featured as a Global health leader among EDCTP-funded scientists and leaders advancing research, strengthening health systems and building scientific capacity in Africa.
Global Health EDCTP funds clinical trials for new medicines, vaccines, and diagnostics to fight infectious diseases in sub-Saharan Africa. Now in its third iteration (EDCTP3), the partnership works to develop health technologis and strengthen African research, and has expanded its scope to address modern global health threats.
